The team answered detailed questions and adapted a private Morocco trip for this couple. They especially appreciated their driver and desert camp.
AksharOverview
Starting in Tangier makes sense if you are entering Morocco through the north and want to finish in Marrakech. This shared ten-day route gives Chefchaouen two nights rather than treating it as a quick stop. Fes also has two nights, with a guided medina day before the long crossing toward Merzouga.
The extra night around Erg Chebbi is the main difference from a one-night desert circuit: one night at a 4-star camp and one in a 3-star Merzouga-area hotel. The camel ride is included, while the second day allows time in the village and at the dune edge without another long transfer. Todra, Dadès and Aït Benhaddou lead west to two final nights in Marrakech.
Eight hotel nights, one camp night, nine breakfasts, nine dinners, shared road transport, scheduled local guiding and local visit fees are included. Lunches, drinks, flights, insurance, tips and activities outside the itinerary are separate. You follow the group’s common timetable, including a morning start in Tangier; arrive there the evening before. This is a road journey with walking visits, not a private, individually adjustable tour.

- Spend a camp night and a hotel night around Merzouga
- Take the included camel ride beside Erg Chebbi

- Finish with a guided day and two nights in Marrakech
Itinerary
Day 1
Tangier to Chefchaouen — South into the Rif
Meet in Tangier for the morning shared pickup, then leave the northern coast for the Rif. The route turns inland toward Chefchaouen, with comfort stops as the terrain becomes more mountainous. Book your arrival in Tangier for the previous evening rather than connecting from a ferry or flight that morning.
At Chefchaouen, settle into the accommodation before an introductory walk toward Outa el Hammam square. The medina’s blue lanes, steps and compact shops set a slower rhythm after the drive. Dinner and the first of two nights are here; tomorrow gives the town more time.
Day 2
Chefchaouen — A Whole Day in the Blue Medina
With no intercity transfer today, explore the medina on foot and follow its lanes toward Ras el Ma, where water emerges at the edge of town. The relationship between the settlement and the Rif slopes is easier to notice when you leave the busiest photograph spots behind.
A walk toward the Spanish Mosque viewpoint adds a wider perspective if weather and path conditions allow. It involves an uphill path, not a vehicle stop at the top. There is time for lunch at your own expense and independent wandering before dinner. Return to the same accommodation for a second night.
Day 3
Chefchaouen to Fes — Roman Stones and Imperial Walls
Leave the Rif for the country around Volubilis. At the Roman remains, walk between columns and surviving mosaic areas to understand the outline of a town once linked to the surrounding farmland. The site is exposed, with uneven surfaces; keep water and sun protection close.
Meknes provides another stop before Fes, contrasting large gates and enclosed urban spaces with the open ruins. Access to individual monuments follows their current opening conditions. The group reaches Fes for dinner and the first of two nights. This stage combines visits and driving, so keep the evening unhurried.
Day 4
Fes — A Day Inside the Working Medina
The guided walk connects the medina’s historic architecture with its everyday trades. Follow the local guide through food markets and craft lanes, pausing to look at materials, tools and the narrow passages serving both homes and workshops. At a suitable terrace, observe the tannery vats and the handling of hides.
Scheduled accessible historic visits and their local fees are included. Some religious interiors are restricted and are viewed from outside. Expect steps, crowds and uneven paving, with a lunch break at your own expense. Dinner is included back at the accommodation; there is no need to pack for another hotel today.
Day 5
Fes to Merzouga — The Long Road to the Sahara
Set out for a substantial driving day through Ifrane and the Middle Atlas. Rest stops divide the journey as the higher landscapes give way to drier country. The Ziz Valley’s date palms create a green band below the road before the route continues toward Erfoud and Merzouga.
Near Erg Chebbi, meet the dune landscape on the included camel ride. Arrival time and daylight determine the sequence; a specific sunset is not guaranteed. Dinner and the camp night follow. Carry a small overnight bag and tell us before booking about any riding difficulty. Tomorrow remains in the Merzouga area rather than immediately turning west.
Day 6
Merzouga — Village Life and the Edge of Erg Chebbi
Breakfast at camp is followed by a day without a long intercity drive. Leave the camp for the Merzouga area and take time for a village walk and the dune edge. The contrast between settlement, hard ground and moving sand gives a fuller picture than the camp approach alone.
This is a slower day, with time to rest and a lunch break at your own expense. Quad biking and buggy rides are additional activities, not included in the standard package. Tonight is in a 3-star hotel in the Merzouga area, with dinner included; the two desert-area nights are not two camp nights.
Day 7
Merzouga to Dadès — Through Tinghir to Todra
Turn west through the settlements of the desert margin toward Tinghir. Along the approach to Todra, irrigated plots and palms show the productive side of the oasis landscape. Planned road pauses give the group time to stretch between the longer sections.
At the gorge, walk a short section near the river and look up at the limestone walls. The visit is a scenic stop, without technical climbing or an extended canyon trek. Continue to the Dadès area for dinner and a hotel night, leaving the route through Ouarzazate and the Atlas for tomorrow.
Day 8
Dadès to Marrakech — The Ksar and the Mountain Pass
The westbound road passes the rose-growing region and Ouarzazate before the visit to Aït Benhaddou. In the ksar, the walk climbs through earthen lanes where adjoining houses and towers form a compact defended settlement. Its position above the riverbed connects the architecture with the older routes through the south.
Closed shoes help on the irregular steps. The final transfer crosses the High Atlas at Tizi n’Tichka, with weather, traffic and comfort stops affecting the pace. Reach Marrakech for dinner and the first of two nights. This is another full road-and-visit day, rather than an early-afternoon city arrival.
Day 9
Marrakech — From Palace Courtyards to Jemaa el-Fna
A guided visit brings together the Bahia Palace, souk streets and the area around Jemaa el-Fna. Carved ceilings and decorated courtyards offer a quieter way to begin before the commercial lanes introduce the bustle of the medina. Fees for the scheduled visits are part of the package.
The Koutoubia is seen from outside, respecting the mosque’s access restrictions for non-Muslim visitors. Pause for lunch at your own expense and leave some time for personal browsing. Dinner and the second night are at the Marrakech accommodation; the evening square remains an option for your own free time.
Day 10
Marrakech — Final Breakfast and Departure
The tour ends in Marrakech with breakfast and the included local departure transfer. Any time before pickup is free: a nearby café or short walk works better than adding a distant excursion on a departure day. Keep your documents and onward travel details ready.
Arrange the transfer time and an accessible meeting point with the team using your flight or onward plans. This north-to-south itinerary does not return to Tangier. Departing from another city requires a separate arrangement and enough additional travel time outside the ten-day tour.
