The team answered detailed questions and adapted a private Morocco trip for this couple. They especially appreciated their driver and desert camp.
AksharOverview
This shared Marrakech loop follows the southern desert route through Agdz and M’Hamid to Erg Chigaga, rather than heading east to Merzouga. Two nights at the same desert camp leave a full day among the dunes before the 4x4 crossing toward the Iriki basin and Foum Zguid. The track itself is part of the journey, with its pace set by ground conditions.
Tata and two nights in Taroudant continue the story beyond the dunes, through the southern interior and the Souss. The route then reaches Essaouira for one night before returning to Marrakech. It suits travelers interested in oasis settlements, earthen towns and a longer Chigaga stay, with less emphasis on the northern imperial cities.
The nine nights comprise seven in 3-star hotels and two at a 4-star Chigaga camp. Nine breakfasts and nine dinners, shared road transport with driver and fuel, specialist 4x4 desert transfers, the camel ride, scheduled local guiding and local visit fees are included. Lunches, drinks, flights, insurance, tips and extra activities are separate. Start with a morning meeting in Marrakech on day 1; arrive the previous evening. Remote tracks and several long road stages require a flexible attitude to timing within the shared programme.

Itinerary
Day 1
Marrakech — A City Introduction Before the South
Meet the group in Marrakech in the morning and explore the Bahia Palace, souk lanes and Jemaa el-Fna area with a local guide. The palace’s decorated courts make a useful contrast with the working streets outside. Scheduled visit fees are included; the Koutoubia is viewed from outside in line with mosque access rules.
Lunch is separate, and the remaining time allows you to settle in and prepare for the road south. This is not an airport-arrival day: reach Marrakech the previous evening. Dinner and the first hotel night are included here.
Day 2
Marrakech to Agdz — Atlas, Aït Benhaddou and Draa Palms
The group crosses the High Atlas by the Tizi n’Tichka road, pausing as conditions and the long transfer require. At Aït Benhaddou, walk through the earth-built ksar, noticing how houses and towers form a compact settlement above the riverbed. Uneven steps call for closed shoes.
Continue through the Ouarzazate area and across the rocky approach to Agdz. Palms and cultivated land mark the change into the Draa corridor. Dinner and a hotel night in Agdz break the journey before tomorrow’s desert approach. This is a full road-and-visit day, not a short drive.
Day 3
Agdz to Erg Chigaga — Through the Last Villages to the Tracks
Follow the Draa route toward Zagora and Tamegroute, with the planned pottery-workshop and old Quranic-school visits. The workshop stop is a visit, not a hands-on class. Continue to M’Hamid, the last village before the desert tracks on this route, where the landscape opens beyond the settled valley.
A specialist 4x4 takes the shared group toward Erg Chigaga. Sand, stony ground and low vegetation replace the road corridor. The included camel ride is arranged with arrival and daylight conditions, followed by dinner and the first camp night. Pack a small bag for two nights in the desert.
Day 4
Erg Chigaga — Stay With the Dunes for a Full Day
A second camp night means there is no rush to leave the dunes after breakfast. A guided walk near camp introduces the shape of the sand ridges and the firmer areas between them. The route and pace follow heat, wind and the group’s abilities; it is not a long expedition trek.
The middle of the day leaves time to rest in camp. Lunch is separate and should be discussed with the team when booking because this is a remote setting, not a town with nearby restaurants. Dinner and the second night are at the same camp. Quad and buggy activities are not included.
Day 5
Erg Chigaga to Tata — The Iriki Crossing
Leave the camp by 4x4 for the western desert crossing toward the Iriki basin and Foum Zguid. The view changes from dunes to broad, stony and sometimes dry-lake surfaces. Do not expect a permanent lake: ground conditions determine the suitable track, and rain can require a different routing.
At Foum Zguid, reconnect with the road and continue toward Tata. The combination of desert track and road makes this a substantial travel day, with practical pauses and lunch at your own expense. Dinner and the hotel night are in Tata, where oasis settlement replaces the isolated camp setting.
Day 6
Tata to Taroudant — Across the Southern Interior
Travel west through the dry valleys and rocky country linking Tata with the Souss, using the road through the Igherm area. Small settlements and cultivated pockets show how daily life concentrates around usable water and routes through the hills. Pauses divide the drive without promising a detailed visit in every village.
On arrival in Taroudant, the walls and gates introduce a town with a different scale from Marrakech. Settle in for dinner and the first of two hotel nights. Tomorrow stays here, allowing time for the medina rather than treating it as another late transfer stop.
Day 7
Taroudant — Walls, Gates and Everyday Markets
Spend the day around Taroudant’s medina with a local guide. A section of the walls and the principal gates helps explain the enclosed town before walking into market streets. Shops selling everyday goods sit alongside craft stalls; this is an opportunity to observe a working regional centre without an obligatory purchase.
Lunch is at your own expense, with part of the day free to return to the accommodation or revisit a nearby street. There is no added long-distance excursion. Dinner and a second hotel night in Taroudant give a pause between the desert interior and the coast.
Day 8
Taroudant to Essaouira — Through the Souss to the Ocean
The road follows the Souss toward the Agadir area, then turns north along the Atlantic corridor. Inland settlements give way to coastal stretches and argan country. Road pauses break the transfer; the itinerary passes through the region without promising a full Agadir city tour.
Reach Essaouira for an orientation walk near the port and medina. Boats and sea walls introduce the maritime setting after the southern valleys. The visit remains compact because only one night is planned here. Dinner and the hotel night are included; lunch during the transfer is separate.
Day 9
Essaouira to Marrakech — From Sea Air to the Final City Night
Use the morning for a nearby medina or seafront walk before leaving Essaouira. The shared return travels inland across the coastal hinterland and plains. This is not a full second day of organized coastal activities, and a surf session is not part of the package.
In Marrakech, settle into the final hotel night with dinner included. Returning the day before departure keeps the last airport transfer separate from the drive from Essaouira. The evening is yours for a short walk or rest; extra experiences outside the programme are separate.
Day 10
Marrakech — The Journey Ends
Breakfast and the local departure transfer complete the circuit. Any interval before pickup is free, with no additional excursion scheduled. Keep passports, onward tickets and essential belongings ready rather than packing them away in the main bag.
The team arranges timing and a vehicle-access meeting point from your departure details. The included drop-off is in Marrakech. A flight from another city needs a separate intercity arrangement and sufficient extra time outside the ten-day programme.
