Day 1

Marrakech to Dadès — Crossing the Atlas into Kasbah Country

Marrakech to Dadès — Crossing the Atlas into Kasbah Country

Leaving the city behind, the road climbs through villages and steep mountainsides to the Tizi n’Tichka crossing. Beyond the high pass, the colour of the land changes and the first distinctive earthen buildings of the south appear.

The route passes Aït Benhaddou, the fortified settlement known for its densely grouped mud-brick architecture. Travellers can appreciate how its compact houses and narrow passages are built for this climate. Through the Ouarzazate and Skoura corridor, cultivated oasis pockets contrast with open rocky ground.

The journey ends in the Dadès area at Hotel Ghazala, a three-star property. Dinner is included. Expect a full travel day with stops paced for the shared group.

Day 2

Dadès to Merzouga — Todra Gorge and the First Dunes

Dadès to Merzouga — Todra Gorge and the First Dunes

The road moves towards Tinghir, where date palms and small fields are threaded between steep, dry hills. At Todra Gorge the canyon walls tower above the narrow road; a short scenic stop reveals a different landscape from the valley of the first night.

Past the Erfoud region, the last stretches towards Merzouga become progressively more open. The dunes of Erg Chebbi appear suddenly against the flatter surrounding desert, their ridges changing appearance with the position of the sun.

An included camel ride introduces the dunes before the overnight at Bivouac Luxury Camp, described as five-star category. Dinner is included at camp. Bring a warm layer: desert nights can be cooler than the daytime journey.

Day 3

Merzouga to Fes — Ziz Valley and the Middle Atlas

Merzouga to Fes — Ziz Valley and the Middle Atlas

The third day begins with breakfast and departure from the Merzouga area. Instead of heading back to Marrakech, the route goes north past the Ziz Valley, where an extended ribbon of palm groves traces the oasis through a remarkably dry landscape.

The journey continues through the Midelt region and the higher country of the Middle Atlas. The scenery changes from desert plateau to mountain landscapes, with the road passing through the Ifrane region on its approach to Fes.

Arrival in Fes is the end of this one-way tour. The long drive leaves limited time for sightseeing, so onward trains, flights and appointments should not be scheduled too close to the expected arrival.
