Itinerary

Day 1

Day 1 — Marrakech to Dadès: Over the Atlas to the Earthen South

Meals: Dinner included Included: One night in the Dadès area

The day begins with the steady climb out of Marrakech into the High Atlas. On the way to the Tizi n’Tichka pass, the road curves around steep slopes and scattered villages; small patches of cultivation cling to places where water and flatter ground allow it. Over the crossing, the mountains feel increasingly open and dry, marking the transition towards southern Morocco.

Aït Benhaddou is the principal cultural stop on this part of the route. The clustered houses, narrow passages and high earthen walls belong to a fortified ksar rather than a single palace. If the group schedule permits a walk through its lanes, notice how the shade, steps and compact buildings are shaped by the climate. The visit is made on foot over uneven surfaces; it is not a promise of a separate private guide.

Through Ouarzazate and the Skoura–Rose Valley corridor, the road reaches the Dadès area. Your first night is in a standard hotel or riad, with dinner included. The property and room arrangement are confirmed with your departure information.

Day 1 — Marrakech to Dadès: Over the Atlas to the Earthen South
Day 2

Day 2 — Dadès to Merzouga: Todra Gorge and the First Sand Dunes

Meals: Breakfast and dinner included Included: Camel ride and desert-camp transfer

The morning road leads towards Tinghir, where the Todra oasis threads along the foot of brown hills. Palm trees, orchards and earthen houses reveal how settlements occupy the few well-watered parts of a dry region. Soon the valley tightens into Todra Gorge, where cliffs rise almost straight from the narrow passage.

There is time for a stop by the rock walls according to the group schedule. A short walk here brings the scale of the gorge into focus: the rock surfaces change colour in the shade, while the sky appears in a much narrower strip overhead. It is a scenic pause, not a full-day canyon hike. The road then carries you farther east through the Erfoud area and the drier plains approaching Merzouga.

The dunes of Erg Chebbi rise sharply above the flat country around Merzouga. The tour includes a camel ride and transfer to a standard desert camp, where dinner and the second night are included. Your tent arrangement is provided with the booking confirmation.

Day 2 — Dadès to Merzouga: Todra Gorge and the First Sand Dunes
Day 3

Day 3 — Merzouga to Marrakech: The Long Road Back

Meals: Breakfast included Included: Marrakech pickup and return

If the shared group timetable allows, the morning begins with a last view of the dunes. In softer light the sand reveals fine ripples and long slopes that looked different the previous evening. The vehicle then leaves the Erg Chebbi area behind, exchanging sand for stony plateaus and the occasional strip of cultivation.

Depending on the confirmed return road, the journey may pass the Alnif–N’Kob–Agdz corridor and the Drâa region on the way to Ouarzazate. This is a travel day: roadside panoramas and practical pauses take priority over prolonged sightseeing. The southern landscapes make the distance visible, from oasis settlements to open dry ridges.

The final stretch climbs back through the High Atlas before descending towards Marrakech. Expect the third day to involve many hours of driving, with arrival affected by traffic, weather and group stops. Keep the evening flexible rather than planning a tightly timed flight or train connection.
