Day 1

Marrakech — Finding Your Bearings in the Medina

Marrakech — Finding Your Bearings in the Medina

Your arrival transfer brings you from Marrakech airport or your hotel to the beginning of the journey. Once settled at your Marrakech riad, the focus turns to the medina. A local guide helps you understand how the souks, small working streets and open squares fit together, making the old city easier to navigate without reducing the visit to a shopping circuit.

The walk takes in the surroundings of Jemaa el-Fna and the exterior of the Koutoubia Mosque. Notice the contrast between the square’s open space and the shaded lanes behind it, where deliveries, workshops and daily errands continue around visitors. Any scheduled paid monument visit is covered by the included entrance tickets; access and the order of visits depend on opening arrangements.

The day’s pace follows your arrival time. An early arrival allows a fuller introduction; a late flight leaves less sightseeing time. Dinner and your first overnight are in Marrakech, ready for the mountain crossing the next morning.

Meals: Dinner Included: Local guiding for the scheduled cultural visits in Marrakech and Aït Benhaddou. This is not a full-time escort guide.

Day 2

Marrakech to Dadès — From the Atlas to the Southern Valleys

Marrakech to Dadès — From the Atlas to the Southern Valleys

The road climbs out of Marrakech into the High Atlas, moving from the plains towards steeper slopes and villages built into the hillsides. Around Tizi n’Tichka, the bends make the mountain crossing part of the experience rather than a simple transfer. Stops for views and rest depend on safe parking, weather and the road.

Beyond the pass, the landscape opens towards Ouarzazate. Earthen buildings become a recurring feature, their walls and towers close in colour to the surrounding ground. The journey continues through the Skoura and Kelaat M’Gouna corridor, where cultivated strips and settlements interrupt the dry expanses.

By the time you reach Dadès, the day has moved through several distinct landscapes. Settle at your Dadès accommodation, with dinner included. This is a substantial driving day, so the programme favours a few useful pauses rather than promising a lengthy visit at every town along the way.

Day 3

Dadès to Merzouga — Todra Gorge and the First Dunes

Dadès to Merzouga — Todra Gorge and the First Dunes

Leaving the Dadès area, travel towards Tinghir and the Todra valley. Palm groves and cultivated ground give way to the gorge, where a short walk brings you close to its steep rock walls. The visit is on uneven ground in places; comfortable shoes are more useful than specialist hiking equipment.

Further east, the route crosses increasingly open country towards the Erfoud region and Merzouga. The first view of Erg Chebbi is a clear change in scale and texture: the dunes rise above the stony surroundings, rather than covering every part of the road south.

The included camel ride is part of your desert experience, followed by an overnight at a luxury desert camp. Light, temperature and the arrangement of the ride depend on the season and conditions, so sunset colours are never a guarantee. Dinner is included, and a warm layer is useful once the daytime heat has faded.

Day 4

Merzouga to Aït Benhaddou — Oasis Roads and an Earthen Village

Merzouga to Aït Benhaddou — Oasis Roads and an Earthen Village

The morning offers a final look at the dunes before the vehicle heads west. Breakfast is included at the camp. There is no need to assume a second camel ride or a long desert excursion: today’s priority is the journey towards the overnight near Aït Benhaddou.

The return corridor passes through the Alnif–N’Kob–Agdz region, with the Drâa’s palm-growing landscapes on the approach to Ouarzazate. The alternation of dry plateaus, villages and cultivated ground helps explain why settlement is concentrated around water. This is another long road day, punctuated by practical breaks and scenic pauses.

Continue beyond Ouarzazate to your accommodation near Aït Benhaddou. Arriving here for the night changes the return’s pace: the ksar can be explored the following morning instead of being squeezed into the end of the desert drive. Dinner and the fourth overnight are included.

Day 5

Aït Benhaddou to Marrakech — Inside the Ksar, Back Across the Atlas

Aït Benhaddou to Marrakech — Inside the Ksar, Back Across the Atlas

Explore Aït Benhaddou with a local guide, following lanes and steps between closely grouped earthen buildings. Its interest lies in the settlement as a whole, from defensive walls to the way houses share limited space. The UNESCO-listed site is a ksar, a fortified village, rather than one single palace.

Some paths are steep or uneven, so take the climb at a comfortable pace and bring shoes with grip. The included tickets cover scheduled paid visits; additional experiences outside the programme are separate. This morning provides the cultural visit that yesterday’s long transfer deliberately left room for.

The vehicle then crosses the High Atlas back to Marrakech. Drop-off is included at your hotel or the airport, according to your travel arrangements. Allow a generous margin for any onward flight: traffic, mountain weather and road conditions can affect the arrival time.

FAQ

Is this tour private or shared?
Both options are offered. A private departure keeps the route transport for your own party; on a shared departure you travel with other guests and follow the group’s pace. State your preference when requesting dates.
What does the €400 price include?
The price is per person and includes four accommodation nights, four breakfasts, four dinners, route transport with driver and fuel, Marrakech airport/hotel transfers, local guides for scheduled visits, the camel ride and included-visit entrance tickets.
Where do we sleep?
The route includes one night each in Marrakech, Dadès, Merzouga and Aït Benhaddou. Three nights are in riads and one is in a luxury desert camp. The accommodation section lists proposed properties, which may be replaced by accommodation of a comparable standard according to availability.
Is the camel ride included?
Yes, the Merzouga camel ride is included. Tell us before booking if you prefer not to ride or have mobility concerns, so your camp access can be discussed without assuming an unconfirmed alternative is included.
Are lunches included?
Breakfast and dinner are included with the four overnight stays. Lunches, drinks not specified in the package, personal purchases and activities outside the itinerary are not included.
Does pickup include the airport?
Yes. Marrakech airport and hotel/riad pickup and drop-off are included. Provide flight information and your accommodation address. In pedestrian medina streets the vehicle may use the nearest accessible point.
How much driving should I expect?
Expect substantial drives on days two and four, plus the Atlas return on day five. The Aït Benhaddou overnight divides the return, but this is still a long-distance circuit. Keep flight connections flexible.
What should I pack?
Bring comfortable walking shoes, sun protection, a reusable water bottle, a warm evening layer and a small day bag for essentials. Desert evenings and mountain conditions can differ greatly from Marrakech.
